Time to get spooky!
Over the last few years, it seems like Halloween has been getting more popular here in New Zealand. When I was a kid, we didn’t celebrate it at all. It was something we saw in American movies and TV shows. For a start, it’s the wrong season here and has no relevance. But that hasn’t stopped big retailers selling a lot of plastic rubbish and sweets to our kids who really don’t know what it all means. I have been wanting to provide an alternative space for kids, so they can dress up and have fun with the whole Halloween thing, without the totally weird idea of knocking on stranger’s door and demanding sugar! I don’t want to be the mean parent so I came up with the idea of having a community children’s dance party where the emphasis is on the experience of dressing up and having fun, rather than the ‘give me sugar’ angle! Hope you can make it!
